| Armação de Pêra is a thriving tourist centre with hotels, apartment-blocks, bars, restaurants and night-clubs. The beach is long and extends from Praia dos Pescadores (Beach of the Fishermen) to Salomão beach although in the summer months, it can become quite crowded in parts. |

| In spite of its overt leanings to tourism, Armação (unlike, say Praia da Rocha) has managed to retain a substantial element of the traditionally Portuguese, for example, walking into the town, away from the beach, there are a good many fish restaurants where food is prepared in traditional manner on open-air, charcoal grills. |
| Armação (which means “net”) owes its existence to tuna and sardine fishing, for it was on the beach at Armação that the fishermen used to lay up their boats and store their tackle, before returning to the dwellings at nearby Pêra. |
