Also on offer, there is tennis, badminton, bowls, horse riding, excellent gymnastic facilities (the annual international Almond Blossom Cross-Country race is hosted here) and more besides. |
| For a little refreshment after all that exercise, you are spoiled for choice; Vilamoura boasts over 100 bars and restaurants. Near the centre of Vilamoura and not far from the Marina, there are the ruins of a Roman villa displaying vestiges of mosaic work and the remains of a bathhouse and vestiges of other buildings. | Adjacent to Vilamoura is the once charming fishing village of Quarteira, now rather spoiled by over-commercialisation, with one of the longest and most luxurious beaches in the Algarve stretching nearly as far as Faro, some 20 km to the east. There is a popular Gypsy market held in Quarteira every Wednesday. |
